Mange in Hamsters

Mites

Causes: Mites which live on the skin causing irritation.

Symptoms: hair loss and sometimes flaky. Usually not symmetrical.

Treatment: treat with an approved topical insecticide such as Xenex or visit your veterinarian. Treatment must be continued for a few weeks as the eggs will continue to hatch out. Eggs are not killed by the topical medication.

Prevention: keep cage clean and monitor for any symptoms of itchiness and hair loss.
