Cystitis
Cystitis

Cause: Infection, crystals or unknown (idiopathic). Some cases can be triggered by stress (eg. new cats in the area). High mineral diet or not drinking enough fluids may aggravate cystitis.

Symptoms: squatting and trying to urinate more frequently. Urinating in odd places (eg. bathroom) and usually only passing a small amount of urine at a time. Urine may be blood tinged.

Treatment: Your veterinarian should be consulted. A urine sample may need to be analysed. Prescription diets prescribed by your vet can also help by changing the pH of the urine and increasing water intake. A blocked bladder is LIFE THREATENING so please do not wait if your cat is having difficulty passing urine.
